Welcome

Welcome to the Halstead Town Council Website

Halstead lies seven miles north of Braintree and is an attractive traditional market town with a wealth of shops, restaurants and interesting walks.

With a population of over 11,000, Halstead has grown steadily and it has several estates of modern houses as well as the expected amenities of 21st century life. Schools are of a high standard and local health facilities include a hospital and medical centre. Leisure opportunites, too are of a high standard with most sports catered for. There are several playing fields and a leisure centre and swimming pool. Clubs and organisations for all ages and interests can be found and the town's community spirit is typified by the Empire, a popular local theatre used for weekly bingo and live shows.

Halstead has a wide variety of individual shops and a market held on Fridays and Saturdays, and is a friendly place to visit.

The Town Council has a responsibility to cater for the needs of the growing population and younger generation, but also to balance these demands and preserve what is best for everyone, whether it be buildings, open spaces or leisure facilities

The Halstead Heritage Musuem is situated at Mill House and is open on Wednesday and Sunday from 1.30pm to 4.00pm

Town Council opening hours are 9.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday

Bumps, Babies and Beyond – An Exhibition by Halstead and Sudbury NCT

Volunteers from Halstead and Sudbury NCT have been working hard to prepare for a new and exciting event for Halstead. Bumps, Babies and Beyond is an exhibition of local businesses and services for all things pregnancy, baby and family related.

The event is sponsored by Sing and Sign Colchester, and Mini Marvels, two fantastic parent and child groups which aim to equip children with essential developmental skills. Mini Marvels and Sing and Sign Colchester will be holding taster sessions during the event, along with a number of other organisations, providing everything from antenatal fitness and baby massage, to storytelling and sensory baby classes. There will also be special offers, demonstrations, a raffle, goody bags for the first 100 visitors, and much more!

Bumps, Babies and Beyond will be held on Saturday 8th October, from 10am – 1pm, at Halstead Baptist Church, Hedingham Road, Halstead, CO9 2DA.

Any money raised from the exhibition will go towards supporting the running costs of Halstead and Sudbury Bumps, Babies and Toddler groups, as well as contributing to the work of the NCT charity as a whole.

Kate Robertson, Branch Coordinator of Halstead & Sudbury NCT adds: “This is perfect event for all expectant parents and families with young children. It’s a great opportunity to talk to the owners of local businesses, attend taster sessions allowing you to try before you buy, and find out everything you need to know about having a baby or toddler in the Halstead area.”

Lisa-Jane Taylor, Owner of Mini Marvels and Sing and Sign Colchester adds:

“The local NCT has supported me personally and so many of my friends - it is an irreplaceable service, which needs as much voluntary support as possible to keep it running, so it's great to have the opportunity to give something back. The BBB event is jam packed with local baby and toddler businesses, so if you have a bump or pre-schooler it's not to be missed!”

Have your cake and eat it at Halstead care home

A local care home is giving the people of Halstead the opportunity to join the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 30th September and raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

From 2pm to 4pm, the Care UK team at Colne View care home is opening the doors to the care home on Colchester Road for afternoon tea. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely cuppa with residents, along with a tempting selection of homemade cakes and treats – all of which will be available for a small donation to Macmillan.

Omar Taylor, home manager at Colne View, said: “We are all looking forward to joining the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. This charity event is so simple and yet it gives us a wonderful opportunity to invite the local community, family and friends to join us for tea, cake and a chat, while raising funds to support the vital services and support provided by Macmillan.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. Last year alone the initiative raised a record-breaking £27.6 million for the charity, thanks to people from all over the UK hosting coffee mornings and making donations on the day to Macmillan.
